There's a reason Germans have such good beer... their beer quality control laws are incredibly strict, more strict than their food laws... you won't find any corn syrup in their beer. There are breweries in CA like that... the best I've found is Stone in Escondido... it's far, but worth the trip (or pilgrimage, as my friends put it). Thus, Oktoberfest being the largest party in the world at any time during the year--celebrated since the 1800s if you know what I mean. :) Indeed, Foster's isn't bad so I'm sure they got killer local brews.
