@Lexybeast: I love that joke, and I've never even heard it. Who in the world is brilliant enough to think of a spherical cow. (That would be a great band name btw.) Alas, like no one is biased, we also say that recursion cannot be avoided--but I think it's more important to recognize that it happens rather than scrap an attempt at figuring stuff out altogether. I guess that's my point. :) Thank you for the awesome comment.

@Loon: Good question!

This reminds me of a joke about a physicist having to calculate the volume of milk a cow produces, who starts by assuming the cow is a perfect sphere. I actually believe in cause & effect over free will, so I guess formulas are theoretically useful. I had a flatmate who believed the same thing, and he theorised a computer that could predict the future via calculating atomic movement on a universal scale. However, recursion would make it fail- it would have to take into account its own calculations into its calculation, and therefore its calculations of its calculations into its calculation, and so on to infinity.

Off the theoretical and onto the practical, the 'perfectly spherical cow' of those social formulas is that we should overly concern ourselves with what other people think about our own lifestyle. Good message about living your own life.

@codemunky: Snowboarding scientist or rocket?

@big league: Ingenious, really. Must be the most unknown formula to mankind.

@Eric: It's like they say, You don't "find" yourself, you "create" it within you. :)

@jimmwin: Ah, that must have been your boba days. And then I guess some formulas are a necessary evil. But when we're fooled into thinking they're necessary in situations where they're actually detrimental then that's the real problem I have. That's where our paths cross!

My pre-art "daze" as a Food and Beverage Analyst were spent juggling, dealing and developing formulas. Using formulas I forecasted revenues and costs post-911 to find out who and when we could lay off employees and who and when we could bring them back.

I leave that behind and don't value formulas at all now.

the pursuit of happiness is elusive, but only found with purpose derived from within ourselves.
