@Edrei: So true. I think it's that love-hate relationship with uniqueness that we're constantly dealing with. As a kid all you want to do is belong ... and if you don't adapt to the fact that you're different and learn to "love" that then it's a pretty miserable life. Then again, there are some adults I know who are entirely satisfied with just blending in (so as to not call attention to themselves).

@moet-chan: Maybe it's an age thing, like I said above. :) But in general, I totally agree.

it seems like everyone was trying to fit in in the 80's but as of the mid-90's the thing to do was to be unique. did anyone notice this change or did i just start seeing the world differently?

If we have everything we want, chances are, we take for granted everything we have. There isn't any need to define what's important to you when everything else is expendable in your own mind.

It's when we lack the things that other people have. It's when we stand out from the norm, so utterly unique that we begin to define what we consider important in the hopes that there is some reason to it.

Maybe it's the fact we loathe and love our own uniqueness at the same time. The difference sets us apart, gives us trouble and brings us joys. But you'll never know what sets you apart, until you know what you don't have.
