@franksabunch: Haha, I don't know if I can argue with Hawaii. I can't believe you're moving - okay I can! Because you've been planning to. :) Let me know when you're in town again...

@moet-chan: That's awesome. Thanks for sharing. And yes, I guess that is a bit more of what I'm saying. There are also a good deal of older folk in Brentwood, for sure. :) And just for posterity, Walkscore.com just analyzed Los Angeles as far as its overall walkability as well as the sub-communities. Note the top "walkable" neighborhoods - mine is no. 1! Very interesting indeed.

@Methodick: I'm all about the drama. You know me.

And I'll give you that point on hotness. I swear - I don't see myself ever getting used to this "desert" kind of hot. The dry, bake-on-the-sand-or-cement kind. Eeesh...And I don't even live in Vegas.

@big league: I have no idea actually. I need to get to know New York more. I use “need” arbitrarily - though let it be known that I love that city!

Also while in Vegas this past weekend, a dude tried to guess "where in LA" I was from, and the 3rd guess was "West LA." ...and then he tried to go on and say why that made sense because it's "way nicer than the east side, right?"

@BlogReader: I guess I would ask then which (pub trans or walkable place) is more important to you? Does the bus line count? I guess then that Pasadena would indeed be a good fit. But as for West LA, I can’t think of anywhere that is walkable, as in like a “Main Street”-type walkable. The closest would be Main St, Santa Monica and Abbott Kinney, Venice. I would really enjoy Larchmont Village which is also very close to Hancock Park. I know where I would prefer to live but that would more than likely not qualify as yours…

@Gnorb: Well I will certainly take that as a compliment then. :) Yeah I think it gave me a lot of validation when my girlfriend came to visit recently (from Milwaukee - a HS friend) and she ended up liking LA a lot more than she thought she would - even though I was sad I didn’t have time to take her to Abbott Kinney in Venice. We never even touched Santa Monica, so I think there is a certain way people like you and I are wired - that we don’t really jive with what we think about stereotypical LA, which I thinks fits more w/the westside and not the east-. But you know, whatever works for “crowd control,” I guess. :) I can’t lay claim to it since I’m a transplant myself!
