It took a few tries, but it seems as though the flagship food, cocktails, wine & beer event of our city’s flagship publication may have this Labor Day weekend on lock. So head on over to Paramount Pictures this upcoming 3-day weekend for a celebration of delicious consumptions and libations. Tickets cost $65 per event and come with unlimited bites and swigs. Field to Fork: Saturday, 9/1 • 11 am- 3 pm (21+)
Times Food Editor Russ Parsons and Chef Ray Garcia of FIG host this session inspired by fresh, local ingredients in celebration of seasonal dishes. Look forward to cooking demos, a conversation with local farmers and a chef’s challenge. You’ll experience tastes from Cook’s County, Sunny Spot, Picca, Mo-Chica, M.B. Post and Canele, who will be plating their Shelled Bean Salad.
Cocktail Confidential: Saturday, 9/1 • 8 – 11 pm (21+)
L.A. Bartenders take center stage as we partake in the craft cocktail movement that is alive and well in our city. Times Food & Night Life Writer Jessica Gelt and mixologist Julian Cox of Rivera/Playa host an evening dedicated to cocktail culture, mixology competitions, specialty elixirs and, of course, party-worthy bites to sop those delicious spirits up. You’ll find mixologists from The Roger Room (which will be doling out samples of their famous “The Thug”), Rivera, Ammo, Public School 612 and Ray’s & Stark Bar all behind the stick. And as if that weren’t enough, you can always head to Pour Vous across the street afterwards… (After all, it just made CNN Eatocracy’s 10 Best New Bars in the U.S. list.)
Flavors of L.A.: Sunday, 9/2 • 11 am – 3 pm (21+)
Times Restaurant Critic Jonathan Gold and chef, author and host of KCRW’s “Good Food” Evan Kleiman host a colorful day adorned with international dishes via Los Angeles’ best restaurants . Look for Chefs Ludo Lefebvre, Susan Feniger, Kris Yengbamroong of NtMRKT and Ricardo Zarate at their informative cooking demos. Discover a wide variety of tastes like Roy Choi‘s (A-Frame, Sunny Spot) Baby Octopus with Kochujang Sauce, Plan Check’s Smokey Fried Chicken, Lukshon‘s Pig Ear, Guelaguetza‘s tamales and taquitos (from Bricia Lopez, herself) and various tastes from The Spice Table.
Dinner & Drinks: Sunday, 9/2 • 8 – 11 pm (21+)
Times Deputy Food Editor Betty Hallock and “The Beer Chicks“, Christina Perozzi and Hallie Beaune, host this evening. They’ll be leading some conversations and pairings with signature dishes and artisanal brews. The Cooking Channel’s Alie & Georgia will also be on hand for a special beer cocktail demo. Participating restaurants and bars include Fonuts, Salt’s Cure and Stella Rossa Pizza Bar (who will be serving up some deliciously roasted beets & burrata with fig vincotto, toasted pine nuts and arugula).
Labor Day Picnic, Presented by Target: Monday, 9/3 • 11 am – 3 pm. (All ages)
Times Test Kitchen Director Noelle Carter and baker/restaurateur Zoe Nathan host a Labor Day celebration that brings everyone of all ages together to honor the sandwich – from ice cream and burgers to tacos and bánh mì. Scope a cooking competition between local firefighters, or watch the experts like Zoe Nathan (Milo & Olive, Huckleberry), Nancy Silverton (Mozza, La Brea Bakery), and Judy Jan (Mendocino Farms, Blue Cow). Thomas Keller joins a conversation with Russ Parsons. You’ll find sandwich purveyors such as The Grilled Cheese Truck, Coolhaus, and MexiKosher passing out tasty bites.
