Sometimes, you don’t want something fancy, high-maintenance or completely out of the ordinary when you’re hungry, but you can always appreciate a reliably delicious, no-nonsense lunch at the ready.
Enter TWIST, a new eatery on La Brea, which has some pretty tasty selections that you’ll enjoy in a tasteful, slate and wood-tinged dining room with just enough industrial and cheery, yellow accents. Already a popular lunch spot, it’s easy to see why as the deli selections include a refreshing mint-beet salad, sumptuous greek orzo, spicy whole grain chicken salad and a subtly sweet chickpea and carrot salad. Since I’ve always been a “sides” kind of person, this is right up my alley.
Responsible for this 2-month-old La Brea establishment, her first restaurant, is Joelle Bercovitch. Daughter of Charles Malka of the Charles David shoe empire, Joelle has always wanted to open a savory, neighborhood place to eat with influences drawn from her cross-cultural, trans-Atlantic lives and travels (thus, the “twist”), and it seems as though she is well on her way.
A representation of her valient efforts can be seen in the glossy brioche bun used in her sandwiches and burgers, made in-house. The pulled pork sandwich is a hit, and the classic burger is solid, surpassing my expectations. And it’s hard not to notice when the bacon that comes on the burger is perfectly cooked – crispy yet tender on the insides. The salmon entree was perfectly cooked, accompanied by an avocado-mango salsa and a delicious side of quinoa-lentil-arugula salad. What’s more, I loved their fresh-brewed ice tea.
Italian coffee and Handsome Roasters coffee are both brewed at TWIST, so you can be sure your java needs are fulfilled. While I haven’t had the chance to try out their breakfast selections, they have an eggs-centric menu for their morning customers. Since I very much enjoyed the simplicity and taste of my lunch experience, it’d be worth a try to go back to try just that.
All food was hosted.
