We’ve had quite a heat wave lately, but as it cools off (as much as it does here in Los Angeles, anyway), you’re probably going to want to spend one of these lazy days enjoying the view. Sure, there’s not as much urgency to the end of summer because we’re in lovely, if sometimes scorching, Southern California, but there are some great specials around town that are incentive to enjoy the weekend or evening panorama. Discover a new scene with opportunities like Sunday suppers, pop-up vendors and wine happy hours.
Luckily, there is a range of special weekly – and even daily – events to try depending on how much you’re willing to commit.
Want bites with beer? Try the Thompson Beverly Hills’ Rooftop Food Club. (Edit: Recently got axed! Sorry guys.) How about a weekday breakfast or a Friday snack by Jose Andres at sunset? Try the SLS Altitude Pool. What about a specially picked pours of wine by a sommelier? It happens daily – and for free – at The Roof on Wilshire at the Hotel Wilshire. If you’re jonesin’ for a great Sunday dinner, head to The Montage in Beverly Hills.
Check below for details:
- The Hotel Wilshire – Daily
Every day on the roof, they’ve got complimentary Wine Hour from 5 – 6 PM. And while you’re there, you’ll probably want to order a few bites or more by Chef Eric Greenspan. Win-win, for happy hour goers. Of course, you’ll probably also want to stay for the day’s sunset.
- The Conservatory Grill at The Montage Beverly Hills – Sundays
Occurring every Sunday – clear until the end of the year – is a wonderful al fresco dining experience at The Montage’s rooftop Conservatory Grill. Because you may as well enjoy Executive Chef Gabriel Ask’s special menu (changes seasonally) from one of the best Beverly Hills views around on a lazy Sunday. It happens every week with a special menu, like this one. Not a bad alternative to Scarpetta (which is actually closed Sundays).
- Altitude Pool Deck at SLS Hotel - Breakfast and Lunch Weekdays, Friday Sunsets, “Swim”dustry Mondays
José Andrés has Mediterranean-influenced dishes on the menu for the 6th floor Altitude Pool Deck, where you can drop in any weekday for poolside breakfast or lunch (including the “SLS Seafood Bowl” with king crab, lobster, sea urchin, shrimp, scallops and oysters) created in the new 5th floor kitchen. And cocktails, of course! But why not come for a Friday sunset (as early as 3PM) to celebrate the end of your week? If you’re in the food and beverage industry, take advantage with 25% off on “Swim”dustry Mondays! Reservations recommended by calling 310.245.5552.
While you don’t have to milk the rest of our wonderful (most of the time) weather, there’s always a reason to head to a hotel rooftop by you. Whether you’re in the mood for wine, cocktails, bites or an all-out meal, there’s a beautiful, 360 degree view waiting to be enjoyed.
