Eat My Blog Bake Sale: Saturday, December 4, 2010

Nastassia (of Manila Machine & & Friends at Eat My Blog 2 (June, 2010)

I love traveling, but of course one of the biggest downsides is missing great events back home while you’re gone. The 3rd Eat My Blog Bake Sale is one of those occasions! Not only is there an epic array of goodies to take home – brought to you by the most talented baking bloggers in town – but you benefit a great cause in the process. All proceeds go to L.A. Regional Food Bank!

You don’t have to take my word for it. Check out this terrific menu, with the gluten-free and vegan items denoted for your dietary convenience. Got a feline or canine friend? They get to enjoy some treats, too!

And remember, even though the event goes until 4 PM, personal experience says to get there as early as you can for the best selection. Bloggers will be standing by to fill your customized boxes with your hand-picked, hand-baked goodies at Tender Greens.

Be there Saturday!!

Eat My Blog Redux on June 19 at Tender Greens

The bloggers of the now-semi-annual Eat My Blog bake sale are coming together for the second time on Saturday, June 19, 2010. In one of the most impressive baking efforts in the city, 100% of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. This time, Eat My Blog will be held at Tender Greens West Hollywood where over 2,000 goods from over 70 bakers will be on display – all items costing a simple $1 – $4 each. Bring cash!

You can look forward to delicious eats from local baking star power like KCRW Good Food host Evan Kleiman, Chicks with Knives, Debbie Lee, Drago Centro, Starry Kitchen, Bakelab, Cube, Fraiche, Choppe Choppe, Hollywood Corner, Valerie Confections, Plaisir, Scoops Ice Cream, and Tender Greens themselves. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf will be featuring a selection of hot beverages to help wash down all your sweets!

Not enticed, yet? Get there early before everything is gone – including bacon brownies, chocolate whoopie pies and “intriguing debuts [like] Momofuku’s Crack Pie from the Los Angeles Times’ Daily Dish and Chocolate Guinness Cupcakes with Bacon Cream Cheese Frosting from Pat Saperstein of Eating LA,” says Diana Takes a Bite, one of the members on the Eat My Blog committee. What’s more, benefiting the LA Food Bank and fighting hunger should be reason enough to satisfy your sweet tooth; at the last Eat My Blog, over $3,000 was raised! “We are excited to partner with the Foodbank again, especially after visiting the facility this winter to see how the money we raised would be used,” said Cathy Danh, author of Gastronomy and founder of Eat My Blog.

I’ll see you bright and early that Saturday in June. After all - if you wait, all the good things will be gone!

Bake For Hope Closing Out Today & Tomorrow

Bake sale for a cure

There can never be enough bake sales Рespecially to help out a good cause. For the past couple days and continuing today and tomorrow, Downtown LA has been the site of Bake For Hope, the proceeds of which are donated to LA affiliates of Susan G. Komen For the Cure. The bake sale is held at the newly-opened Daily Dose Caf̩ near Church & State, where the menu changes daily and diners are treated to whatever unique dishes the chefs feel like serving up that day.

So head downtown today and tomorrow – there’s still time to help find a cure.

Cookies Without Borders: A Bake Sale for Haiti

Photo credit to BitchMagazine on Flickr

The mind behind No Cookie Left Behind – who has held three bake sales for Share Our Strength – is now turning efforts towards the people of Haiti. On Sunday, January 31st, 2010, come to Scoops Ice Cream to help out, hang out and come together for a common cause.

Featured will be a dizzying array of sweets from both professional kitchens (Spork Foods, Whisk LA, Bitter Sweet Treats [added: Valerie Confections and Large Marge Sustainables]) and local homes, as well as a few jars of choice homemade jams. All proceeds from the bake sale will go to Doctors Without Borders, a Nobel Prize-winning international humanitarian organization working to meet the overwhelming medical needs of post-earthquake Haiti.

Do you love to bake and want to donate a few of your favorites for the sale? Email Tannaz Sassooni herself (tannazie [at] gmail [dot] com) to coordinate that and for more info.

And if you can’t make the date, it’s possible to mail a check directly to Doctors Without Borders to benefit Haiti. Please write “Cookies Without Borders Bake Sale” on the check for reference.

In the meantime, I’ll see you at Scoops on Sunday. And while I’m at it, I’ll be checking out what crazy ice cream flavors Tai has cooked up at the moment…

…over 800 baked goods, including classic whoopie pies, pumpkin swirl brownies, bacon apple pie, and black sesame cupcakes with matcha frosting.

Whaaat? 800? Wait. Matcha? There’s more:

…caramel fleur de sel macarons, finska pinnar (Finnish finger) cookies, carrot cake cookies, shortbread cookies with maple caramel glaze, chocolate cupcakes with five-spice frosting, bacon brownies with bourbon caramel sauce, organic maple walnut cake with maple cream cheese frosting, pear and walnut mini coffee cakes, bacon walnut maple fudge, bacon apple pie, and pumpkin empanadas…

All I want to know is what that five-spice frosting is. You can also click here for the full menu.

This is probably the best foodie collaboration I’ve seen with the best talent in LA baking for your pleasure. Swing by, buy a few NOMs you never even knew existed and rub elbows with some of your favorite Los Angeles food bloggers. All items will be priced at $1, $2 or $3 for your convenience so please bring singles.
