Clover: The Cold-Pressed Juice Bar on La Brea Opens Tomorrow

Clover Juices

I have to admit, I’m a bit of a procrastinator. Okay, let’s try that again. I very much leave things to the last minute, and now that the new year rush is over, it may just be time to do a juice cleanse. Though I’ve never done one, I’ve perhaps been inspired by my on-going, 2-month long Pilates-spin regimen. Let’s be honest: What I put into my body gets a lot more attention – despite all the events and dinners – whenever I’m working out regularly.

Clover is fittingly located next to a yoga studio for the ultimate environment in mind-body conscientiousness. The organic juices support local sustainable farming with the produce it sources. But it doesn’t stop there; there’s also kombucha on tap, Stumptown coffee, food by Silver Lake’s Flore Vegan but also sandwiches by The Churchill’s Executive Chef Bruce Kalman. Pastries sold in-store will be created by Lauren Lobley of Charm City Cakes, which will also include vegan and gluten free options baked fresh, daily.

Sample Sale at Malo Restaurant: Grease For Your Wallet

Margarita | Photo credit to smohundro on Flickr

Tomorrow on Thursday, June 10, 2010, Malo Restaurant in Silver Lake will be hosting the third of Tiny Bandit’s series of sample sales featuring local threads for men & women. Shop lines from Akiko, Saint Grace, I [heart] Juliet, Jessica Elliot and more. Don’t forget to bring cash for your clothing purchases. Let’s face it: Folks are smart when they employ “retail therapy” with alcohol.

This is not one of those shopping events where you get a gift bag at the end that’s comprised of more flyers and trash than actual schwag. Instead, you get to reap the benefits of $1 tacos and happy hour drink prices ($4-7) until 10 PM. Besides, you don’t really even need happy hour to go til close because you’ll probably be broke by then, anyway. So grab a couple Spicy Cucumber Margaritas and spur on the local economy. Don’t forget the $1 tacos, either – besides, any seat inside Malo is a lot more comfortable than any couch in the mall.

Happy 6th Birthday, Valerie Confections

Almond Fleur de Sel Toffees

Six years ago, Valerie Gordon and Stan Wrightman, Jr. decided to found an artisanal confectionery. With the finest and natural ingredients comprising delicious chocolates, toffees, petit fours and even jams – the sophisticated palate is further complimented by Valerie Confections’ minimal and artful signature packaging. I’ve found that a great way to give a part of L.A. is to gift a box of Valerie’s toffees or petit fours (and keep one for yourself). It’s guaranteed to leave your giftees with a much better impression of the city than than they had, previously. Only if that diplomacy tip is your thing. Who needs them?

In celebration of their confectionery’s birthday, Valerie and Stan are doing a very special 50% off discount expressly on their very first product – 12-piece Debut Toffee Assortment. Just use code “HBVAL” upon checkout. This code offer is available only through Monday, May 31st. Shipping & handling are not included.

And if you happen to be local, stop by the boutique (on the border of Koreatown and Downtown). You’ll be treated to special birthday samples of those debut toffee flavors! Trust me – they all taste absolutely heavenly.

The Fusion of Food With Fashion: Taste of the Nation at Tory Burch

Christina, Stephanie, Dena and me | Photo Credit to Mike Tabolsky

As mentioned earlier, I co-hosted an event that took place at Tory Burch on Robertson for a special Taste of the Nation shopping event last Thursday. While holding the honor of being the token food blogger, I joined Dena of Dluxelist and Christina and Stephanie of Paisley Petunia (recap) as hosts. I’m elated to report that the turn-out and the event as a whole were a huge success. Probably every girl there tried on a pair of shoes. I went home with a pair of sunglasses and a clutch while having resisted a black leather tie belt. But the bubbly flowed freely as trays of Susie Cakes cupcakes were being passed by extra tall male models dressed in black.

The place was packed and I got to meet a ton of cool gals from the L.A. beauty blogger community. For each 10%-discounted Tory Burch purchase, 10% more was donated to Taste of the Nation. Or, if the attendee bought a ticket to the Taste of the Nation culinary event, she got to save a total 20% off her Tory Burch purchases. Each ticket purchase came with a fabulous gift bag put together by Dena. Taste of the Nation ended up selling more tickets than projected, and became that much closer to ending childhood hunger in Los Angeles.

But there is still a ton of work to be done – leading up to and through the big event on Sunday, June 6. And there are plenty of more opportunities to support Taste of the Nation at an upcoming function while getting your tickets at the $15-discounted rate:

  • Saturday, April 17, 2010: 10 AM – 1 PM
  • All proceeds from the bake sale go to TOTNLA

Tory Burch Teams Up With Taste of the Nation

I’m proud to announce that I’ll be co-hosting a special shopping event at the Los Angeles Tory Burch boutique on Thursday, April 8th along with power fashion and beauty bloggers Dena of Dluxelist and Christina & Stephanie of Paisley Petunia to benefit Share Our Strength!

At the private 6 – 8 PM shopping event, attendees will be able to buy their discounted ticket to the Taste of the Nation culinary event taking place on Sunday, June 6th from 1 – 4 PM in Culver City. Normally, tickets run $100 for regular admission and $150 for VIP, but at our special shopping event, you’ll be able to buy tickets in person for $15 off ($85 and $135, respectively; child tickets remain $25). All proceeds – yes, 100% - from ticket sales benefit Share Our Strength’s efforts to end child hunger. It’s a great way to experience the premier Los Angeles chefs and mixologists and taste great wine in one spot for an afternoon in the beautiful California sun while supporting a great cause. If you are one of the first 50 at the event to buy a ticket at the shopping event, you’ll also receive a luxe gift bag full of a ton of beauty products and other goodies, including Pinky Vodka!

And when fashion and food forces combine, the incentives don’t stop. Make this a night out with the girls – champagne and h’ors doeurves will be served, and you’ll be encouraged to shop the Tory Burch Robertson boutique for 10% off all full-priced merchandise while Tory Burch donates another 10% to Share Our Strength. And if you have bought a Taste of the Nation ticket, you’ll be able to take advantage of the full 20% discount and keep it all yourself!

This is a private event (business hours are only until 6 PM) and the store is only so big – so be sure to RSVP (rsvp.totnla [at] gmail [dot] com) to secure your spot! I hope to see you there – ready to browse & shop Tory’s beautiful designs and prints – and to support a great organization like Share Our Strength!
